How to Download Twitter (X) Videos and GIFs
Save videos and GIFs from public Twitter (X) posts as MP4 on iPhone, Android or PC. Works with both x.com and twitter.com links.
Twitter is now called X, but people still search for a "Twitter video downloader", and the links still work either way. Here is how to save a video or GIF from a public post.
Step by step
- Open the post and tap the Share icon, then Copy link. On a computer, copy the address from the browser bar.
- Open the Twitter video downloader.
- Paste the link into the box and press Fetch.
- Pick a quality. The highest quality is listed first, and lower options give a smaller file.
- Press Download.
Do old twitter.com links still work?
Yes. Links that start with x.com or twitter.com are both supported, so you do not need to change anything.
How do GIFs download?
X stores GIFs as short looping videos, so they download as small MP4 files. Most phones play them like normal videos. If you need a true .gif file, you will need to convert the MP4 with a separate tool.
Which posts can be downloaded?
Posts that anyone can see without logging in. Posts from protected accounts, and posts that do not contain a video or GIF, cannot be downloaded.
If it does not work
- Open the link in a private browser window to check the post still exists and has a video.
- If the post contains several photos or videos, copy the link from the post itself rather than from the media viewer.
- Try again in a few minutes.
